vibe time!!!

drinking: dr pepper

eating: balatong

listening: mariah by lauv. not that i really listen to lauv. just funny that the song is my name. and i'm saying that as someone who was named after a song.

what a week. on tuesday when the international booker longlist was announce i was actually talking about iran (specifically the 1979 hostage crisis) with nathan and thats about all i know about iran. and now nicks parents are stranded in qatar because of all the airstrikes on iran. and i'm not going to act like i truly understand anything going on, but its interesting how timely this was and is definitely pushing me to get those two books set in iran.

okay, so i'm reading the international booker long list. if i fall behind i will at least finish the short list. so far i have 4 books. the wax child, we are green and trembling, the remembered soldier, and the deserters. those are the only 4 i was able to get, and i also bought another edition of the tatami galaxy. dont ask me why. but if i were to create a list for a personal canon, the anime would be there. a few books havent been published yet. i am very interested in the books as a group, thematically speaking. i've started with we are green and trembling which is actually kind of hard to get through. i'm about 60 pages in and i understand that things are happening i'm just not sure what. i swear i'm not usually this dumb. but i keep not wanting to pick it up so i might switch to one of the others soon. i only started with this because michela wants to read it. this is the first time i'm trying to read the international booker longlist in real time and i mightve picked the worst book to start with.

i bought plane tickets to boston!!! so i feel some pressure to post about my japan trip in october before i eventually go on another trip and keep slacking on that trip. but i wont do before i post the next weeknotes. so please dont ask me nathan.

this week was doing a lot of errands, like taxes and car maintenance. and we went to palo alto because i like keplers they also had a good amount of the long list. also the dumbarton bridge is $8 now?? wtf. goodthing got the elora pour over and a hojicha latte. elora is a good name. pretty good. they used the origami brewer. and last year i told nick that i wanna buy one. and instead we bought another v60 (switch and a ceramic version with the choju giga on it... and if you know me it was hard to pass up) but it wouldve been good when we ran out of v60 filters... maybe he will agree now. sometimes getting an $11 pourover will cure you. i love cafes. the cake was bad. not inedible bad, but i actually just bake too much to my own taste that i'm rarely impressed by cakes. or i think "i could make this" whenever i eat a sweet lil treat.

speaking of sweet lil treats, here are the ingredients for two recipes. sorry i'm just typing them up, bare as possible. baking is not that hard. but basically the orange poppy seed is my favorite. i only make it when oranges are ripe and on my tree. seasonality is beautiful you know. but its from a cookbook by yossy arefi. and the banana bread recipe is just a recipe, i'm not sure from where. but i ended up making 8 loaves of banana bread because i had 18 bananas last week and everyone went feral for it. do i think its good? yes. but i think its more that free and surprise banana bread is great. please bake something and bring it to people. orange poppy seed

banan bread

hot pot on thursday i saw michela and we got dinner. not much has changed in the month since i last saw her. but i did give her a loaf of banana bread and a bunch of oranges off my tree.

i feel very low energy that i don't want to link anything. i'm just tired. and like an idiot because i didn't really save links i wanted to share. i dont have the energy to look through my history. maybe next week!!
